Arrest of Alaa… A Continuous Crime and a Double Violation

Alaa's father writes about ongoing suffering

The arrest of Alaa, each time, is a harsh and humiliating act in itself, but the true cruelty is manifested today in the repetition of the same crime without any regard for humanity or justice.

The inability to protect her and to stop this injustice is a feeling that is no less painful than the arrest itself, as frustration surrounds us and undermines the sense of safety and dignity.

The first time, Alaa was a university student, a young woman at the beginning of her life, without family responsibilities, and despite the severity of the violation at that time, there was a minimal level of solidarity and public concern.

Today, however, the situation is more dangerous and harmful:

Alaa is a mother of three children, and her arrest does not only affect her, but its destructive impact extends to children who have been deprived of their mother, and to a family left prey to anxiety and fear.

What is happening today is not just detention, but a blatant violation of women's rights, specifically mothers, and a direct assault on the principles of justice, the right to freedom, the right to family life, and protection from cruel and degrading treatment.

The most dangerous aspect is that silence has become the norm, and issues concerning women and girls no longer receive the attention they deserve, as if injustice has become a routine matter that does not warrant anger or action.

Yesterday's visit revealed the extent of the pain, not only in the details but in the surrounding silence, and in the harsh feeling that we have been left alone to face this injustice.

Nevertheless, we cling to our right to hope, our belief in divine justice, and that injustice does not last.

God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

And Al-Shehab Center demands

The immediate release of Alaa, and the cessation of targeting women and mothers.

Ensuring respect for the rights of detainees in accordance with the constitution and international treaties.

Empowering Alaa in her right to care for her children and not punishing them collectively.

A call for human rights organizations and independent media to shed light on the issue.

Holding accountable those responsible for these violations and ensuring they do not escape punishment.
