Continued enforced disappearance of citizen Ahmed Khalil Hassan Abd El-Hay since March 2018 in North Sinai Governorate
Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights monitors the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Ahmed Khalil Hassan Abd El-Hay, who was 35 years old at the time of his arrest and works as a car mechanic. He is from the Karm Abu Nujayla area in North Sinai Governorate. Since 5 March 2018, no information has been disclosed about his place of detention or his fate to date.
According to information received by the Center, news of Ahmed has been cut off since the date of his arrest, and no information has been available regarding his whereabouts or legal status, amid his continued disappearance for more than eight years, raising fears for his life and safety.
His family continues to suffer ongoing humanitarian and psychological distress due to the uncertainty surrounding his fate and the absence of any information that would allow them to feel reassured about him, after many years of waiting without knowing what he has been subjected to or where he is being held.
Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights expresses its deep concern regarding the continued enforced disappearance of Ahmed Khalil Hassan Abd El-Hay, stressing that the continued absence of news about him since his arrest and the denial of his family’s right to know his fate require urgent intervention by the competent authorities to uncover the circumstances of the incident.
The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately reveal his whereabouts and fate, conduct a serious and independent investigation into the circumstances of his arrest and disappearance, ensure his physical and psychological safety, enable his family to be reassured about him, and release him immediately if it is established that he is being held without any legal basis.
