First Trial Sessions Begin for Young Man Mohamed Waleed Amid Health Concerns
🔴 After two years in pretrial detention… the first court sessions begin for the young man “Mohamed Waleed,” a person with disabilities
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center is closely following, with deep concern, the start of the first court sessions for the young man “Mohamed Waleed” (21 years old), scheduled for 9 June 2026, after spending more than two years in pretrial detention before being referred to the Criminal Court.
📌 Complex health conditions behind bars:
Disabilities and congenital deformities: Since birth, Mohamed Waleed has suffered from MPS syndrome, along with severe deformities in the skeletal system and limbs, and extreme difficulties breathing and eating.
Documented psychological disorders: The conditions of detention have led to a deterioration in his mental state, as he suffers from severe depression, anxiety, and social phobia, which makes him in precise need of careful care and continuous medical follow-up.
⚖️ Al-Shehab Center’s demands:
The Center emphasizes that the trial of persons with disabilities entails a special constitutional and international obligation that respects their needs and safeguards their dignity, and it calls for:
Taking into account the exceptional health and humanitarian condition of the young man Mohamed Waleed throughout all stages of the trial procedures.
Ensuring his immediate access to specialized medical and psychological care without obstacles inside his place of detention.
Commitment to national and international standards for protecting persons with disabilities, and providing all guarantees of a fair trial for him.
