The Life of Dr. Mahmoud Ghazlan Is in Danger Inside Badr Prison, and His Two Sons Are Held in Detention
🔴 Now that he is 79 years old behind bars… real fears for the life of Dr. Mahmoud Ghazlan inside Badr Prison
With deep concern, Al‑Shehab Human Rights Center is monitoring the continued detention of Dr. “Mahmoud Ghazlan” (79 years old), a professor of chemistry at the Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University, inside Badr Prison, in light of the deterioration of his health condition and his systematic deprivation of medical care.
📌 Details of suffering and family abuse:
Critical health conditions: Dr. Ghazlan suffers from several illnesses associated with his advanced age. He is subjected to harsh detention conditions, with the continued denial of family visits and deprivation of appropriate treatment, which poses a direct threat to his life.
Arrest of the sons: The suffering has not stopped with the elderly father. His two sons (engineer Yasser Mahmoud Ghazlan and Yahya Mahmoud Ghazlan) are also held in detention since 2 June 2015, which compounds the family’s tragedy that has persisted for many years.
⚖️ Al‑Shehab Center’s demands:
Al‑Shehab Center affirms that detaining elderly persons and patients in the absence of medical care constitutes a flagrant violation of the right to life and international covenants. It calls for:
Immediately enabling Dr. Mahmoud Ghazlan to obtain specialized medical care and the necessary treatment.
Reopening family visits and stopping arbitrary measures that prevent him from communicating with his relatives.
The release of Dr. Ghazlan and his two sons, and ending the suffering of the extended family.
