In a blatant violation and a continuation of systematic policies of abuse, the family of detainee “Mahmoud Abdel Moneim” has suffered a devastating ordeal anew, following confirmed reports that his cell was forcibly raided and that he was taken under coercion from within Minya High-Security Prison to an unknown destination, with his whereabouts completely unknown since then.

📌 Milestones of abuse and arbitrariness:

Record of violations: Abdel Moneim has previously been subjected to several documented abuses, including an assault on him inside Wadi El-Natrun Prison in 2017, as well as prior arbitrary treatment that also affected his family.

Prolonged “displacement”: In June 2022, he was arbitrarily transferred to Wadi El-Gedid Prison under policies of displacement and collective punishment that further intensify his family’s suffering.

Unknown fate: His current abduction reopens serious fears for his physical and psychological safety in the absence of any information that would reassure his relatives.

Immediate disclosure of the place of detention: Urgent disclosure of where detainee Mahmoud Abdel Moneim is being held and clarification of his fate following his removal from Minya Prison.

Allowing the family and the lawyer access: Immediate permission for his family and his lawyer to contact him to verify his condition.

Ensuring physical safety: Holding the security authorities fully responsible for his safety and life, and stopping any practices that put him at risk.

Stopping displacement and enforced disappearance: Putting an end once and for all to the crime of enforced disappearance and the arbitrary displacement of detainees.
