Continued Enforced Disappearance of Abdullah Muhammad Atwa Muhammad Since October 2018 After His Arrest While Preparing to Perform Military Service
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center monitors the continued enforced disappearance of young man Abdullah Muhammad Atwa Muhammad, a resident of Aṭf Sādāt village, since his arrest on 25 October 2018, without any disclosure of his place of detention or his fate to date.
According to information received by the Center, Abdullah was 19 years old at the time of his arrest. He had recently completed his education and was not working; he was in the process of preparing to perform military service before he was arrested, and his news has been cut off since that date.
His disappearance has continued for more than eight years, with no information available about his whereabouts or legal status, amid fears for his life and safety, and the human suffering his family continues to endure as a result of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his fate.
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern about Abdullah Muhammad Atwa Muhammad’s continued disappearance over these years, especially since he was 19 years old at the time of his arrest and at the beginning of his working life. The Center stresses that depriving his family of knowing his fate calls for urgent intervention by the competent authorities.
The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts and fate, to conduct a serious investigation into the circumstances of his arrest and disappearance, to ensure his physical and psychological safety, to enable his family to be reassured about him, and to release him immediately if his detention is found to be arbitrary.
