Al-Shehab Human Rights Center monitors the continued enforced disappearance of Palestinian citizen Muhammad Muda‘an Abdelsalam Wadi, who is currently 45 years old, and resides in the Al-Masa‘id area, opposite the village of Dhilal Al-Nakheel in the city of Al-Arish, North Sinai, since 2018, without disclosing the location of his detention or his fate to date.

According to his family’s statement, Muhammad—who does not work—went to the National Security headquarters in the city of Al-Arish to complete his residency procedures as a Palestinian national. However, he did not leave the premises, before his family discovered that he was inside First Al-Arish Police Station, without their knowledge of any charges being brought against him.

The family explained that they were able to visit him twice during the period of his detention at the station, which lasted about two weeks. However, when they went to visit him again, they were informed that he was no longer present at the station, and that a security entity had taken him to an unknown location.

The family affirmed that his news has been completely cut off since then, and they have been unable to determine his place of detention or his fate, despite searching for him with various relevant authorities, which, according to their statement, did not acknowledge having him.

Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses deep concern over the continued enforced disappearance of Palestinian citizen Muhammad Muda‘an Abdelsalam Wadi for more than eight years, especially as his family was previously able to visit him inside First Al-Arish Police Station before he disappeared after being transferred by a security entity, according to the information received.

The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose the location of his detention and his fate, and to conduct a serious, independent investigation into the circumstances of his detention and his transfer from First Al-Arish Police Station, identify the entity responsible for taking him, ensure his physical and psychological safety, enable his family to contact him and verify his well-being, and release him immediately if his detention is proven to have occurred without a legal basis.

The Center emphasizes that the right to liberty and personal security and protection from enforced disappearance is guaranteed for all persons, regardless of their nationality, and that the continued disappearance of any person and depriving their family of knowing his fate constitutes a serious violation of human rights.
