Continuation of the enforced disappearance of citizen Islam Hassan Salama Younes Al-Kashif since September 2020, following his transfer from Battalion 101 in Al-Arish, North Sinai
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center monitors the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Islam Hassan Salama Younes Al-Kashif since September 2020, after his whereabouts became unknown following his detention inside Battalion 101 of the Border Guards in the city of Al-Arish, North Sinai Governorate, without any disclosure of the location of his detention or his fate to date.
According to his family’s statement, Islam was summoned to the Intelligence Office in Al-Arish on 1 March 2020, where he remained detained for one day before being transferred to Border Guards Battalion 101, where he stayed for approximately six months.
The family added that Islam left the battalion in late September 2020, without them having any information about his destination or the entity that took charge of his transfer. Since that date, his whereabouts have been completely unknown. They have been unable to determine where he is or his legal status, despite more than five years having passed since his disappearance.
His family continues to suffer ongoing human and psychological distress due to the ambiguity surrounding his fate, amid fears for his life and safety—especially since the last known place where he was detained was a military facility, according to information provided by the family.
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern regarding the continued enforced disappearance of Islam Hassan Salama Younes Al-Kashif, stressing that the fact that his whereabouts became unknown after his detention by security and military authorities requires a serious and urgent investigation to determine his fate and the circumstances of his departure from Battalion 101.
The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his location and fate, to conduct a serious and independent investigation into the circumstances of his detention at the Intelligence Office and Battalion 101, to identify the entity that took charge of his transfer or handover in September 2020, to ensure his physical and psychological safety, to enable his family to be reassured about him, and to release him immediately if it is established that he has been detained without any legal basis.
