Following the postponement of criminal procedures… We support detainees’ legitimate demands and call for an immediate halt to forced “deportation” and abuses
#Press Statement
The Al‑Shehab Human Rights Center announces its full solidarity and absolute support for the legitimate demands raised by detainees inside prisons and places of detention, following the passage of a bill stipulating that the application of the new Criminal Procedures Law (Law No. 174 of 2025) be postponed until October 2027; affirming its complete support for the decision to strike and the mobilization carried out by the detainees, which has been driven by the difficult conditions they face inside their places of detention.
The Center stresses that the detainees’ demands, foremost among them:
- The release of detainees held in pretrial detention
- Ending the policy of rotation and arbitrary detention
- Improving detention conditions inside prisons and places of detention
- Providing effective medical care
- Stopping all forms of abuse
- An immediate halt to the pursuit of women, and to raids on homes and houses
are inherent rights guaranteed by national constitutions and international human rights instruments, not merely a grant or privilege.
Accordingly, the Al‑Shehab Human Rights Center calls on the relevant authorities to:
- Respond immediately to all humanitarian and legal demands of detainees
- Provide the necessary medical requirements, allow regular visits immediately, and permit entry of essential supplies without restrictions
- Release immediately all those detained arbitrarily, and ensure fair trials for those subjected to legal procedures
The “Shehab” Center confirms its continued monitoring of conditions inside prisons and places of detention, following them closely, and documenting all violations; especially campaigns of stripping and forced “deportation.” It also renews its call to all relevant authorities and human rights institutions to exert the necessary pressure to end the suffering of detainees inside prisons, and to ensure the supremacy of the law.
