Precautionary measures in the new Code of Criminal Procedure

Article 114 of the new Code of Criminal Procedure has been expanded to include 7 alternative measures to pretrial detention:

1- Not leaving one’s residence or place of domicile.

2- Presenting the accused to the police station at specified times.

3- Prohibiting visits to specific places.

4- Not leaving a specific geographic area except with permission from the Public Prosecution.

5- Refraining from receiving or meeting certain persons, or contacting them by any means.

6- A temporary ban on possessing or acquiring firearms and their ammunition.

7- Using technical means to track the accused, in accordance with the controls set by law and the decisions regulating this.
