Urgent appeal from Liman Wadi El-Natrun prison
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center calls for an investigation into a complaint concerning the alleged serious violations to which an inmate at Wadi El-Natrun prison has been subjected.
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center is closely following, with deep concern, what has been reported in an appeal regarding the conditions of the criminal inmate Saeed Sobhi Mohamed Al-Ansari Al-Saqa (32 years old), who is held in Cell 3 – Room 10 within the Wadi El-Natrun prison complex (430). The appeal includes serious allegations that he has been subjected to a series of ongoing violations for more than a month and a half.
According to the complaint submitted to the Center, the inmate is subjected to prolonged disciplinary detention, along with physical assaults and repeated insults. It also alleges the confiscation of his personal belongings and the seizure of his money, as well as preventing him from receiving sufficient food and drink, and repeatedly transferring him from his place of detention.
The complaint further states that the detention authorities prevent him from receiving the necessary treatment despite his suffering from high blood pressure, raising serious concerns about his health condition—especially in light of what has been reported about his being deprived of medical care and his basic needs. The information provided indicates that obtaining some essential necessities has become conditional upon paying financial sums, in practices that may amount to extortion and ill-treatment.
The complaint submitted holds Amanin Owais, head of investigations at Wadi El-Natrun prison 430, responsible for these violations, calling for an urgent investigation into the aforementioned incidents.
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center calls on the competent authorities to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into these allegations, ensure the inmate’s physical and psychological safety, enable him to receive the necessary medical care, and stop any practices that may constitute a violation of the rights guaranteed to detainees under the Egyptian Constitution and the relevant international rules governing the treatment of prisoners.
