Today marks a full month since political activist Mohamed Adel began his hunger strike inside the Tenth of Ramadan Prison - Rehabilitation 4, which he started on December 7 in protest against the non-implementation of the law, with his sole demand being the inclusion of the duration of pretrial detention within the sentence issued against him.
▪️ Serious threats inside his detention
In recent days, Mohamed Adel has faced repeated threats of beating and humiliation from prison officials, according to statements from his family and lawyer, in a highly dangerous development that threatens his physical and psychological safety.
▪️ Severe health deterioration
Mohamed Adel is suffering from:
Atrophy of the shoulder muscle
Shoulder dislocation
Tear in the knee ligaments
Urgent need for knee joint replacement surgery
According to medical reports issued by Mansoura General Hospital, this makes the continuation of the hunger strike a direct danger to his life.
▪️ Legal actions
The family has filed an official complaint with the Public Prosecutor to investigate the threats, and they have also submitted a complaint to the National Council for Human Rights regarding the violations he is facing.
▪️ Full responsibility on the prison administration
The family and defense team affirm that the administration of Tenth of Ramadan Prison - Rehabilitation 4 bears full legal responsibility for his safety, and they demand his release after nearly 12 years of detention.
