🟥 The death of detainee Ibrahim Ahmed Abdel Rahman inside Gamasa Prison after a serious health deterioration
The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center reports the death of detainee Ibrahim Ahmed Abdel Rahman, known as "Abu Tasbeeh," from the village of Sarabium – Ismailia, inside Gamasa Prison, following a severe deterioration in his health and failure to receive necessary medical care.
🔻 Case details:
He is estimated to be over 60 years old.
About two months ago, he suffered serious complications due to a blockage in the gallbladder, later revealing that he had a cancerous tumor.
Despite the clear deterioration in his condition, his transfer for appropriate treatment was delayed, and he did not receive the necessary medical care in a timely manner.
He was recently transferred to Mansoura Hospital, where he passed away due to the deterioration of his health condition.
🔻 Legal background:
Ibrahim Abdel Rahman has been detained since 2014.
A 15-year prison sentence was issued against him in a politically motivated case.
The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center confirms that the death of Ibrahim Abdel Rahman is part of a recurring pattern of systematic medical neglect within Egyptian prisons, where detainees are deprived of early treatment and access to appropriate healthcare, resulting in the loss of lives that could have been saved.
🔻 Center's demands:
To open an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the death and the conditions of detention and treatment.
To hold accountable those responsible for the medical neglect that led to his death.
To ensure medical care for all detainees without any discrimination.
