🟥 Urgent appeal from the families of detainees in Damietta: Widespread violations against detainees amid a lack of oversight and accountability

The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center announces that it has received an urgent appeal from the families of political prisoners and detainees of conscience in Damietta Governorate, documenting serious violations that are repeatedly occurring against detainees, posing a direct threat to their safety and fundamental rights.

🔴 First: Fabrication of cases and targeting of citizens

– Phone summonses from the National Security.

– Arbitrary arrests from homes or through checkpoints on the roads.

🔴 Second: Legal violations

– Enforced disappearances for unspecified periods inside various detention facilities.

🔴 Third: Systematic judicial violations

1- Presenting defendants to the prosecution after enforced disappearance and charging them with joining a banned group without evidence or the presence of lawyers.

2- The absence of any time limit for pretrial detention from the prosecution or criminal courts.

3- Presentation to the judge via video and preventing actual communication with lawyers.

4- Failure to refer cases to the competent courts since September 2024.

5- Recycling detainees in new cases despite release orders, with some being detained for over 7 years.

6- Rejection of all appeals submitted during the past period.

7- Complete control of the National Security over the judicial scene at all levels.

🔴 Fourth: Serious human rights violations inside detention facilities

1- Inhumane and unhealthy detention conditions.

2- Denial of medical care to patients despite prosecution approvals.

3- Obstacles in providing medicine and textbooks and preventing visits.

4- Prohibition of communication with families during visits.

5- Denial of exercise and exposure to sunlight.

6- Spread of skin diseases among detainees due to poor conditions.

📢 The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center demands:

– The Public Prosecutor

– And the Chief Public Prosecutor of Damietta

To take immediate action and open a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the complaints of the detainees' families, and to hold accountable those responsible for the violations that constitute serious breaches of the constitution and the law, affirming that both parties bear full responsibility for the continuation of this catastrophic situation.
