The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center mourns the death of citizen Tamer Hosny Abdel Hamid Desouki – 56 years old – from the Agouza area in Mohandessin, Giza Governorate, who had been imprisoned since mid-2014 under a life sentence, on Monday, August 11, 2025, due to deliberate medical negligence inside his detention.

He suffered from severe heart problems, with his heart muscle functioning at only 20%, in addition to being afflicted with diabetes, which caused him numerous health complications, amidst a continuous deterioration of his condition in recent times, without receiving the necessary medical care or being allowed to go to an external hospital, despite the prison doctor's recommendation.

The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center holds the Egyptian Ministry of Interior and the Prisons Authority responsible for his death, and calls for an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding it, as well as an end to the systematic violations against detainees, especially the deprivation of necessary treatment and healthcare, which represents a form of slow death.
