Ayman Sabry: Is "Khaled Said" the New Face in Belqas?
Monday 28 July 2025

🔴 Ayman Sabry.. "Khaled Said" anew in the Belqas police station?!
15 years between the two incidents.. torture continues and impunity is the headline!
Just as Khaled Said was dragged from his barber shop to meet his fate under torture at the Sidi Gaber police station in 2010, the young man Ayman Sabry passed away inside the Belqas police station in Dakahlia Governorate, less than a week after his detention, with his body showing signs of torture, according to testimonies from his family and eyewitnesses.
This case brings to mind painful scenes experienced by Egyptians and confirms that policies of violence and impunity are still in place, despite everything that has happened.
📌 Statement from Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights
The death of young Ayman Sabry inside the Belqas police station amidst accusations of torture and calls for an independent investigation
Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights expresses its deep concern regarding the death of young Ayman Sabry, 21 years old, inside his detention at the Belqas police station in Dakahlia Governorate, on the evening of Sunday, July 27, 2025, just less than a week after his detention, amidst testimonies from his family and local residents confirming the presence of signs of torture on his body, raising questions about the official narrative that spoke of "sudden illness and a drop in blood circulation."
Ayman, a student at the Faculty of Arts – Department of Surveying at Mansoura University, was arrested on July 21 on charges related to possession of narcotics and a weapon, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
However, his family asserts that he did not suffer from any illnesses, and they were shocked by his sudden death and the receipt of his body, which bore clear signs of injuries suspected to be the result of torture.
The area surrounding the Belqas police station witnessed angry protests from residents following the announcement of his death, with participants chanting demands for the truth to be revealed and for those responsible to be held accountable.
In contrast, security forces intervened to disperse the protesters, in a scene reflecting public anger and a lack of trust in the official narratives regarding violations within detention facilities.
The center indicates that the incident of Ayman Sabry's death is not the first of its kind, but rather a repetition of similar cases previously documented in Egyptian police stations and prisons, holding the Ministry of Interior fully responsible for the safety of detainees, emphasizing that the continuation of impunity policies entrenches a culture of systemic violence and undermines the justice system.
💬 Al-Shehab Center demands:
• An urgent and independent investigation supervised by a neutral judicial authority, with the announcement of the results of the forensic report.
• Holding accountable those responsible for any violations against Ayman Sabry inside his detention.
• Enabling his family to have full access to information regarding the circumstances of his death and ensuring their right to justice.
• Stopping the repeated violations within detention facilities.
• Allowing human rights organizations to monitor prisons and places of detention in Egypt.
