Dr. Mohamed Beltagy's Wife Appeals for Help and Shares His Message from Badr 3 Prison

🔴 The wife of Dr. Mohamed Beltagy appeals for help and publishes his message from inside Badr 3 prison

Hunger strike until death in protest against oppression and abuse

The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center publishes this message as received from the wife of Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, the prominent political detainee and professor at the Faculty of Medicine – Al-Azhar University, who is held in sector (2) of Badr 3 prison. The message reveals his ongoing suffering for 12 years and announces his entry into an open-ended hunger strike since the beginning of July, in protest against the inhumane conditions faced by him and his companions.

Below is the text of the message as received without any modifications:

Message from my husband who is on a hunger strike along with others

In protest against the oppression and abuse they are facing... until when?

I am Mohamed Beltagy, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar University, and a former member of parliament,

and I have been detained for my political stance since 2013, held in sector (2) of Badr (3) prison for three years with 57 of my colleagues, living in extremely harsh inhumane conditions,

It has been eight years during which we have not seen the sun or the colors of the sky,

Eight years inside closed cells 24 hours a day, we only leave them to the hospital in the most difficult circumstances, if we are allowed to do so,

Eight years we have been isolated from the world: no newspapers, no radio, no television.

Eight years we have not seen our mothers, our wives, or our children, and none of them have been allowed to visit us at all, nor have we been allowed to communicate with them in any way, neither by phone nor even written messages, to the extent that one of us learns of the death of his mother or a relative only after years or more!

I joined the list of hunger strikers inside the sector since the first of July, and I will continue my hunger strike until death unless these inhumane conditions change.

We have endured what no human can bear for more than 12 years, and it is no longer possible to endure more.

What we are subjected to in terms of abuse is unparalleled in any prison in the world, not even in the state of Israeli occupation. Death is easier than what we are in!

I repeat my call... Everything that is happening to us in terms of systematic torture since 2013 until today is nothing but revenge for our stances, which were represented in our participation in leading the January 25 Revolution, and then our refusal of the coup against the revolution and the nascent democratic experience.

Those with me include ministers, governors, former parliament members, university professors, and leaders in political, revolutionary, and popular parties; we all suffer the same ordeal for 12 years..

O free people of the world, raise your voices to stop this oppression, tyranny, and despotism.

Mohamed Beltagy

📌 The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center

expresses its full solidarity with Dr. Mohamed Beltagy and the hunger strikers in Badr 3 prison, and demands their immediate release, the cessation of all forms of violations, abuse, and isolation, and the opening of an urgent and independent investigation into the flagrant violations they are subjected to, which threaten their lives and represent a gross violation of international treaties and humanitarian standards.
