Adjournment of Aya Kamal El-Din’s Trial to 9 December for Arguments
The First Terrorism Circuit of the Cairo Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed Saeed El-Sharbini, decided to adjourn the trial of detainee Aya Kamal El-Din Hussein to the session of 9 December 2026 for arguments, in connection with Case No. 93 of 2022, Supreme State Security, which was referred for trial on 18 November 2024.
This is the third case facing Aya Kamal El-Din. She was first arrested in October 2013, then arrested again in March 2020, over the publication of a video clip in which she criticized the authorities’ handling of the coronavirus crisis, before she was released on precautionary measures.
On 2 July 2022, she was arrested for the third time from her home and, according to the information received, was subjected to enforced disappearance for three days before appearing in connection with the current case. In this case, she faces charges of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media.
The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center renews its demand to ensure Aya Kamal El-Din’s right to a fair trial in which all legal guarantees are available, to review the continued detention, and to respect her fundamental rights and freedoms.
