Continued Enforced Disappearance of Citizen Mohamed Abu Samra Ismail Al-Sharif Since December 2017 After He Was Taken from His Home in Arish, North Sinai

Al-Shehab Human Rights Center monitors the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Mohamed Abu Samra Ismail Al-Sharif, who is currently 38 years old, and a resident of the city of Arish in North Sinai Governorate, since 17 December 2017, following his being taken from his home, without any disclosure to date of the location of his detention or his fate.

According to information received by the Center, Mohamed was taken from inside his home in the city of Arish, and since that date his whereabouts have remained unknown. His family has been unable to determine where he is or his legal status, amid the continuation of his disappearance for nearly nine years.

His family has been living with ongoing human and psychological suffering as a result of the ambiguity surrounding his fate, and the absence of any information that would allow them to feel reassured about his life and safety throughout these years.

Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern regarding the continued enforced disappearance of Mohamed Abu Samra Ismail Al-Sharif, stressing that keeping his fate unknown for this entire period requires urgent intervention by the competent authorities to reveal the circumstances of his disappearance and to ensure his family’s right to know the truth.

The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts and fate, to conduct a serious and independent investigation into the circumstances of his being taken from his home and his disappearance, to ensure his physical and psychological safety, to enable his family to be reassured about him, and to release him immediately if it is established that he is being held without any legal basis.
