Death of detainee “Khaled Mohamed Abdullah Al-Shafawi” at Al-Ahrar Hospital after his condition deteriorated and his leg amputation became difficult
🔴 A new tragedy of medical negligence: the death of detainee “Khaled Mohamed Abdullah Al-Shafawi” at Al-Ahrar Hospital after his condition deteriorated and his leg amputation became difficult
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights expresses its profound condemnation and denunciation of the death of the detained citizen “Khaled Mohamed Abdullah Al-Shafawi,” who died inside the hospital following a severe and systematic deterioration of his health condition, resulting from deliberate medical neglect within places of detention.
📌 Details of the medical tragedy and the deterioration of the condition:
A journey of deterioration and a postponed procedure: the deceased had been preparing to undergo an urgent surgical operation to amputate his leg last Sunday at Hihya Central Hospital, before he was transferred late to Al-Ahrar Hospital, where he breathed his last.
Prolonged detention and harsh conditions: he had been held at the Ibrahimiyah Police Station in Sharqia Governorate for about six months, noting that he had previously been subjected to arbitrary detention in 2022.
Systematic deprivation of care: throughout his detention, the deceased suffered from the absence of treatment and the necessary medical care required by his critical condition, which led to the worsening of his health status until his death.
⚖️ The demands of the Al-Shehab Center:
Urgent and transparent investigation: opening an independent and neutral investigation into the circumstances surrounding Khaled Al-Shafawi’s death, and identifying those responsible for the negligence and medical neglect that led to his death.
Accountability for those involved: bringing to legal accountability all those whose involvement is proven in depriving the deceased of urgent healthcare.
Stopping medical violations in prisons: requiring the security authorities to provide the necessary and immediate healthcare for all detainees, and lifting arbitrary restrictions that prevent patients from receiving treatment.
Allowing monitoring of detention centers: permitting human rights organizations and independent judicial bodies to visit places of detention to assess the health condition of detainees.
