15 Years Severely Imposed on Detainee Mohamed Hidaya—No Lawyer and No Consideration for His Health

🔴 15 years of severe imprisonment for a detainee suffering from psychological disorders

“Al‑Shehab” condemns the ruling issued against Mohamed Hidaya in his absence of a proper lawyer

Al‑Shehab Center for Human Rights condemns the ruling issued against the detainee/ Mohamed Hidaya, sentencing him to fifteen years of severe imprisonment in Case No. 11004 of 2025 State Security (and registered under No. 4901 of 2026, Al‑Bساتين, and No. 11 of 2026, Helwan Quly).

📌 A trial from which justice and medical safeguards were absent:

Documented physical and psychological health issues: The detainee suffers from clear and documented psychological and nervous disorders. His condition was evident to those around him inside the detention facility, and it was also clearly apparent during the court sessions, without any regard being given to it.

Absence of proper defense: The sentencing session was held before the panel chaired by Counselor Wajdi Abdel‑Munem, in the absence of a proper lawyer to represent him. During the second session only, a “duty lawyer” was summoned to consider the case, amid astonishment among those present that the detainee was unable to understand the proceedings or defend himself due to his health condition.

Medical neglect that threatens life: The detainee receives no appropriate health care or specialized treatment sessions inside his detention facility, which seriously worsens his condition and poses a real threat to his life and his physical and psychological safety.

⚖️ Al‑Shehab Center’s position and demands:

Al‑Shehab Center affirms that trying a person who suffers from psychological and nervous disorders without providing the necessary legal and medical safeguards, and without enabling him to mount a genuine defense, constitutes a blatant violation of fair trial standards and international covenants.

Accordingly, the Center calls for:

Urgently investigating the circumstances of this trial and the exceptional procedures carried out against the detainee.

Immediately presenting Mohamed Hidaya to an independent psychiatric/psychological medical committee to assess his health condition and determine the extent of his eligibility to continue detention and trial.

Ensuring his full right to specialized and appropriate health care and to a genuine defense outside the deteriorating environment of detention.

Stopping violations related to depriving detainees of basic legal safeguards, especially in cases of a political nature.
