🔴 After 12 years behind bars.. The death of detainee Khaled Al-Abyad inside Minya prison due to medical negligence
📌 The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center reports the death of detainee Khaled Al-Abyad inside Minya prison, after more than 12 years of detention, following a severe health crisis that the prison administration completely ignored, refusing to transfer him to the hospital despite the seriousness of his condition.
According to testimonies received by the center, Khaled's colleagues repeatedly called for help to save him after his sudden health deterioration, but the prison administration ignored all pleas until he passed away in his cell.
His family confirms that he did not suffer from any chronic illnesses prior to his detention, and that medical negligence and poor conditions inside the prisons are the direct cause of his death, as well as the recurring reason for the rising number of deaths among detainees in Egyptian prisons.
Khaled Al-Abyad – held in connection with the case of storming Helwan police station – was a father of a son and a daughter, who waited for more than 12 years for him to return alive… only to receive his corpse in the end.
🛑 The Al-Shehab Center holds the Egyptian authorities fully responsible for his death and demands an urgent and independent investigation, ensuring necessary medical care for all detainees without discrimination, and halting the policy of systematic medical negligence.
