🔴 Death Behind Closed Walls.. Dr. Alaa Al-Azab Passes Away in Badr Prison After Struggling with Medical Neglect
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep shock and sadness at the death of Dr. Alaa Al-Azab – a former member of parliament for the Zifta district after the January 2011 revolution – inside Badr Prison under harsh detention conditions, following a deterioration in his health and the lack of necessary medical care.
According to family and human rights sources, Dr. Alaa faced deliberate medical neglect despite his family's repeated pleas for help, amid complete isolation and denial of visits and medication, in an environment characterized by a lack of transparency and the absence of the minimum standards of living within the Badr prison complex.
Al-Shehab Center confirms that this incident is not the first within this highly secretive prison, which has turned into what resembles a "large isolation room" slowly leading to the demise of detainees, away from the eyes of the law.
The center demands:
- An urgent and independent investigation into the circumstances of the death and accountability for those responsible.
- Enabling the family to access medical reports and details of the last hours of his life.
- Immediate improvement of the conditions of detainees and ensuring their right to treatment and respect for their human dignity.
The center holds the Egyptian authorities fully responsible for this death and renews its call for international organizations to intervene urgently, before Egyptian prisons turn into silent graves from which no one emerges except as a corpse.
