🔴 The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern regarding the death of citizen Walid Ahmed Taha – an employee at Bank Misr and a father of two – while in detention at the Second Police Station in Shubra El-Kheima under mysterious circumstances, amid strong suspicions that he was subjected to violations that led to his death.
The family confirmed that the victim had called the police after he and his family were shot at by one of their neighbors and the nephew of the assailant. However, the police station – due to the assailant's relation to a police officer – detained the victim instead of the attackers, pressured him to drop the complaint, and then renewed his detention despite him being the one who reported the incident. Days later, his family received news of his death in custody, despite him not suffering from any illnesses, while the police station refused to file a report to document the family's suspicions of foul play.
🔹 This crime represents a new link in the chain of violations against detainees within places of detention.
🔹 The Al-Shehab Center demands an urgent and transparent investigation, an autopsy to determine the true causes of death, and accountability for all those involved.
