Strikes Escalate Inside Death Prison: "New Valley Prison"

🔴 The escalation of strikes inside the death prison... "New Valley Prison"

The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern regarding the escalating violations against detainees inside Egyptian prisons, primarily New Valley Prison, known in the media as the "death prison."

🔻 According to documented information, dozens of detainees in Section 4 of the investigation have entered an open hunger strike since last Saturday, protesting the severe violations they are subjected to, including arbitrary transfer from Badr 1, Badr 3, and Wadi al-Natrun prisons to New Valley Prison, despite being from Cairo and the Delta.

📍 All detainees have been in pretrial detention for many years, some exceeding five years without trial or release, and they face deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions amid a complete absence of any independent judicial or human rights oversight.

⚠️ This strike represents a cry of protest against practices of abuse and arbitrary detention, revealing the extent of the violations that threaten the lives of hundreds of political prisoners, in complete disregard for the constitutional and legal provisions that guarantee human dignity and the right to a fair trial.

🔺 The Al-Shehab Center holds the Attorney General and the Ministry of Interior fully responsible for the safety of the detainees, and demands an end to the transfers, improvement of conditions inside prisons, and the immediate release of those arbitrarily detained without trial.

📢 The center also calls on international organizations and the global human rights community to take urgent action to stop these violations and work to protect the dignity and human rights of individuals inside Egyptian prisons.
