🔴 The death of academic Dr. Mohamed Salem Ghoneim inside his prison after four years of arbitrary detention without charge
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep sorrow and condemnation for the death of Dr. Mohamed Salem Ghoneim – a professor of Library Science and Information Systems at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University – inside his prison, after four years of arbitrary detention without charge, and in tragic detention conditions that lack the most basic standards of justice and dignity.
During his years of detention, Dr. Ghoneim was deprived of his legal and human rights, and he suffered from severe neglect that led to his death in prison, in a recurring scene that reflects the extent of violations against detainees in Egypt.
Al-Shehab Center affirms that Dr. Ghoneim was one of the symbols of academic work in Egypt, with dozens of scientific publications in the fields of information and libraries, and he contributed to the graduation of generations of researchers.
The center demands an urgent and transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death, and accountability for all those responsible for his continued detention and the severe harm that led to his death in prison.
