We, the detainees of Al-Qanater Al-Khairiya Prison, are subjected to abuse and torture inside the prison by the state security officers of Al-Qalyubia governorate. When we protest any of the harassment we and our families are exposed to during visits, some of us are punished by deportation to other prisons that are too far away for our families to be able to visit us such as Al-Wahat prison. Furthermore, a large number of the family visits have been canceled although these visits occur with a permit from the Attorney General or the State Security Prosecutor. Knowing that most of these visits are necessary for detainees especially those who are elderly and those with chronic diseases because they are our only access to medicines that are indispensable for those who need them. Considering all the financial burdens and the physical and psychological suffering of our families while preparing for t visit for hours and perhaps days, and coming from different far away governorates, our families are prevented from meeting us after waiting for a long day in the prison lounge. If one of us protests any of these violations, he is mistreated and tortured- by the state security officers of Al- Qalyubia- and is put in solitary confinement. Given that some of the detainees are sick and elderly (some over 85 years old), these misconducts and violations of prisoners’ rights do endanger the lives of many.
