Mustafa Helwa, 43, of Shubra El-Kheima, Qalyubia Governorate, passed away on Monday evening, June 12, 2023, as a result of a brain injury occurred due to falling and hitting the ground while descending the prison's stairs. After being taken to the Alexandria University Hospital, he passed away.
This political prisoner from Egypt was given a five-year sentence. After serving his term and while on parole, he was resentenced to life in prison in a different made-up case.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights holds the Egyptian Interior Ministry accountable for his death, demands an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his murder, and calls for the release of all political prisoners.
